Brian,
Congratulations on a successful mission! I am Tom Gruber's cousin. When I rec'd the letter asking for
pro-American motorcycle organizations to represent their pro-military support in the city of Berkeley,
I immediately organized a meeting of the bikers in Orange County, Calif. Next door to my jewelry business
for thirty, well-established years, approximately 400-500 bikers meet each Wednesday evening. They are an
intimidating group of leather and chrome. I usually got annoyed by the obnoxious sounds of revving up of
their choppers and their occupancy and takeover of our parking lot for about 5 hours each nite as I close
for the evening.
As you can well imagine, many of my clients found it, shall I say, "intimidating" to bring their valuable
gems in to our place of business for repair, custom designing, etc.
When I walked into the "cocktail lounge" next door last Wednesday and proceded to read your letter asking
for support on Saturday, I was shocked at the patriotism, enthusiasm, and overall eagerness from these straggly,
bearded men to help out. I was overwhelmed that I had under-estimated the power of a cause by a group of men
that I had previously dismissed as "a different element" than what I am used to seeing in our community. this
is the first time that I had reached out to them!
I don't know how many of them from our area showed up in Berkeley, but I had a solid guarantee that as many that
could go would do so and they would be visible and show a substantial amount of support for the troops.
Just wanted to let you know that I think the patriotism for our country, our troops, and our fight against terrorism
is that much closer to a victory because of people like you and Tom who are willing to step up to the plate and
teach (whom I thought were) the unteachable what the red ,white, and blue of our country really stands for!
thank God for this country
thank God for the people like you.
Sincerely,
Rose Keller
Mr Brian Dennard....
I read your letter to Mayor Bates indicating you and your companies unwillingness to do business with anyone from the
Berkeley area. I, as President of North American Underwriters a Managing General Underwriter of large employer self
insured group medical programs agree with you wholeheartedly. We researched our data base and discovered we have 4
policyholders in the Berkeley area representing approx 800 employees....I can assure you that because of the absurd
position that the anti American stance that this ridiculous community has taken we will send notices of non renewal
to each of these policyholders. Thank for your patriotic stance...a few more like us may make this jerk Bates a bit
uncomfortable
